Moritz Boehringer was the feel-good story of the 2016 NFL Draft but as far as his new coach Mike Zimmer is concerned, the German’s time in the limelight is at an end for the foreseeable future. The 22-year-old made history last Saturday as he became the first player ever to be drafted straight from Europe when the Minnesota Vikings took him in the sixth round.Boehringer, whom Minnesota initially scouted through his YouTube highlight clips, became interested in American football when he saw a clip of Vikings running back Adrian Peterson. Minnesota Vikings make history by selecting German wide receiver Boehringer in the sixth round On Monday, Boehringer became the first 2016 draft pick to sign his contract when he inked a four-year, $2.49m contract with a signing bonus of $150,420.The Vikings got his deal done as quickly as possible to provide extra time for Boehringer to get a work visa, and he was cleared in time to practice Friday. That practice was a welcome to the NFL moment for Boehringer as he got sick several times in the blistering Minnesota heat.Boehringers transition from the German leagues to the NFL is unprecedented and Zimmer knows he has a mammoth task in front of him to learn what it takes - both on and off the field - to be an NFL wide receiver. Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer is known for his no-nonsense approach I want to kind of end the story, to be honest with you, Zimmer said. I want him to be here playing football and not being a celebrity.Ive given him a hard time already about being on TV shows and stuff like that. Its football now, and its time to work. The feel-good story is over.Boehringer was met by a large crowd of curious reporters as he walked off the field after his first rookie mini-camp practice and he admitted there is a big learning curve in front of him.You definitely have to get used to the speed, Boehringer said. There is a lot more tempo. But it was the first day so they explained some stuff to me and it was okay. The offence is new to everyone so that is good for me but in general football knowledge I have to do some work.I just have to concentrate on football right now. I want to get better and just try to show what I can do.When Boehringer wasnt getting sick on the side of the field, he had some good moments in practice which didnt go unnoticed by Zimmer. From what I saw today, hes a pretty good athlete, Zimmer said. Obviously, hes going to have to learn. The biggest thing for these guys is learning terminology. Thats hard right from the start, but thats not any different from him or anybody else. Highlights of the first round of the NFL draft, where Jared Goff was the first pick, going to the Los Angeles Rams. There is no doubt Boehringer is a project who is unlikely to be much of a factor during the 2016 season but the reason the Vikings were so intrigued by his potential is his extremely rare athleticism. At his pro day in Florida before the draft, the 6ft 4in, 227-pound Boehringer ran the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds, had a vertical jump of 39 inches, a 10-foot-11 broad jump, a time of 4.10 seconds in the short shuttle, a time of 11.15 seconds in the 60-yard shuttle and a time of 6.65 seconds in the three-cone drill. He also bench-pressed 225 pounds 17 times. All performances would have placed in the top five among receivers at the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine. We were very intrigued with his potential and his upside because you cant find that size, that speed and all the athletic test numbers that he had, general manager Rick Spielman said. Now the hard part of turning all that potential into production begins for Boehringer and the Vikings. CHICAGO -- Joakim Noah and Jimmy Butler understand it. The real victory for the Chicago Bulls will come when theyre knocking the Miami Heat out of the playoffs, not during the regular season -- no matter how charged the atmosphere is. Even so, theyll take this. Noah had 20 points and 12 rebounds, D.J. Augustin scored 22 and the Chicago Bulls beat the Miami Heat 95-88 in overtime Sunday after Butler blocked LeBron James at the end of regulation. "I want what they have -- a championship," Noah said. "One day, were going to have to get through those guys." The Heat have owned them when it counts in recent seasons. With a healthy Derrick Rose and the No. 1 seed in 2011, Chicago fell to Miami in the Eastern Conference finals. Last year, with Rose out, the Heat knocked off the Bulls in the second round on the way to their second straight championship. "Its still a good win," Butler said. "It gives us confidence we can beat them. But ... in the playoffs, like Thibs said, we cant go around them; youre going to have to go through them." Dwyane Wade scored 25 for Miami, but with James struggling again, the Heat dropped their third straight to match their longest losing streak of the season. James scored 17 points on 8-of-23 shooting and couldnt come through after Miami blew a 12-point lead down the stretch. With a chance to win it at the end of regulation, he got stripped by Butler on a layup attempt. In overtime, it was all Bulls. Chicago outscored Miami 9-2, starting with Augustins 3 just under a minute in. Butler added a jumper from the wing, Noah scored on a putback and Butler hit two free throws to make it 95-86 with 1:33 left before James made a layup. Noah also had seven assists and five blocks with his dad -- tennis great Yannick Noah -- looking on. Butler added 16 points and 11 rebounds while containing James. Wade tried to carry the load for Miami, particularly in the early going. Chris Bosh scored 15, but James had another rough afternoon. The four-time MVP is 23 for 59 in the three games since his career-high and franchise-record 61-point effort against Charlotte last week.dddddddddddd James also went without a mask from the start to protect his broken nose, after ditching it during the previous game. He said it was simply uncomfortable, so he decided to play without it even though he was not cleared to do so. The Bulls got back into it after the Heat led by 12 late in the third quarter. Augustins 3-pointer and Butlers steal and two free throws put Chicago ahead 75-74 midway through the fourth. It was 82-82 with just over two minutes left when Noah blocked a layup by James. Taj Gibson raced the other way for a thunderous dunk while getting fouled by Mario Chalmers, drawing a roar from the crowd. James tied it again on a layup with 1:10 left. Wade then stole the ball from Butler and hit two free throws after getting fouled inside by Noah to give Miami an 86-84 lead with 29.2 seconds remaining. But Kirk Hinrich quickly scooped in a runner to knot it at 86 with 20.1 seconds left. After a timeout, James took the inbounds pass and got stripped driving for a layup along the right side by Butler to send this one to overtime. "I dropped the ball. Its like a double entendre," James said. "I actually dropped the ball, but I dropped the ball on my team. I had it. Thats a great play. I give a lot of credit to Jimmy. He got his hand on the ball, but I had the lane. I had the layup." NOTES: Things got a bit heated between James and Butler late in the first half. They got tangled going for a loose ball near the Heat basket after James tried to corral a long pass. As they hit the court, Butlers foot hit James nose, and James appeared to push him. Both players got technicals. "Two competitors were down there," Butler said. "Whatever happened, happened. But I dont back down." James brushed it off, saying, "Just two competitors going at it, one trying not to give an edge." ... The Bulls and Heat split the season series at 2-2. ' ' '
